- Please sign in and out each day you volunteer. This helps SLC know who is in the building. This log is also used to verify volunteer hours when questioned by colleges.
- If volunteers are completing service hours, you are expected to keep a record and have a teacher or office staff sign off each day that you are present.
- Volunteers should wear a name tag (provided by SLC).
- Please contact the office as soon as possible if you are unable to volunteer at your scheduled time.
- Volunteers must meet the age eligibility and, at a minimum, be enrolled in high school. The summer before entering ninth grade is acceptable.
- Volunteers who are 18 years of age or older are required to be fingerprinted. We are glad to assist in setting this up.
- Appropriate language and conversations as well as comfortable and appropriate clothing are expected.
- Volunteers in classrooms should guide students in following established classroom rules. Classroom teachers should handle disciplinary problems
- Volunteers should use positive reinforcement and direct and sincere assurance of a students’ efforts. Difficulties or concerns must be directed to the teacher as soon as possible
- Please respect the privacy of our students. Never discuss specific students outside of Special Learning Center.
- Volunteers must have a signed confidentiality statement on file and are expected to adhere to the guidelines
- Volunteer duties may include: assisting individual students, working with small groups, general clerical tasks, fieldtrip supervision and other activities as assigned. Learning through play is valuable for preschoolers. Reading books, completing puzzles, games and imaginative play are always appropriate interactions with students.
