First Steps is Missouri’s Early Intervention system for infants and toddlers, birth to age 3, who have delayed development or diagnosed conditions that are associated with developmental disabilities. First Steps works with families by ensuring that coordinated services are provided as conveniently as possible.
Therapy Services: SLC is contracted to provide therapy services through the Missouri First Steps program. Speech therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy are provided through a child’s First Steps Individual Family Service Plan. These services usually take place in the child’s home or another natural environment.
High Priority Classroom: SLC is providing classroom services to children who are 2 years of age or older on a “high need or high priority” basis. These children have delayed development or diagnosed conditions that are associated with developmental disabilities. Their unique developmental, social or medical needs are addressed within a small group setting. The High Priority Classroom is taught by a teacher certified in both early childhood special education and First Steps as a Special Instructor.
If you are a First Steps service coordinator wanting to refer a child to the High Priority classroom, please complete and submit the High Priority Referral Form.
