Special Learning Center’s Outreach & Family Support program is a free service for families and provides free resources and support to families with children who have developmental delays, professional diagnoses, or an IEP/IFSP. This program helps caregivers navigate challenges, access community and special needs-based resources, and find the support needed to meet their child’s unique needs.

PROGRAM PARAMETERS

  • Children from birth to kindergarten
  • Children with an IFSP or IEP, developmental delay, or professional diagnosis
  • Children residing within SLC’s service area

VISITING PROGRAM

Families can visit on a routine basis with a Family Support Special at SLC or in the family’s home. Personalized, in-home support includes discussing the needs of the family and connecting families to needed resources. Visits are conducted on a monthly, bimonthly, or quarterly basis.

EQUIPMENT LENDING

Equipment lending opportunities offers families access to adaptive tools and resources – such as fine motor, gross motor, sensory equipment, and more – designed to support their child’s developmental progress at home. Families must be enrolled in the visiting program to utilize this loan service.

FAMILY-FRIENDLY EVENTS

Monthly events are hosted at SLC or out in the community and are free to families and open to the whole, immediate family of the child(ren) we are serving. Our goal is to give families with special needs children a positive, inclusive experience that is tailored to meet their needs. These events are a great opportunity for families to connect and meet other families walking a similar path.

RESOURCE SUPPORT

Family Support Specialists offer personalized information and resources to meet each family’s needs. This includes connecting families to community resources like food assistance, utility help, diapers, and clothing, as well as special needs resources such as medical professionals, locating financial resources, special educational process support, and guidance on parenting and daily living challenges.

DIAGNOSIS SUPPORT GROUPS

Diagnosis-specific support groups provide families the opportunity to connect with others facing the same challenges. These groups are a great way to share resources, ask questions, and receive advice on a variety of topics.
