These therapists have over 70 years of combined experience working in a variety of pediatric therapy settings including school-based, early intervention home visiting, clinic, telehealth and hospital settings.
Lisa Borgmeyer, MPT
Clinic Director
EDUCATION + CERTIFICATIONS: Lisa graduated from University of Missouri-Columbia in 2006 with her Bachelor of Health Science and Masters in Physical Therapy. She has specialized certification in TheraSuit, Intensive Therapy, Serial Casting, Functional Electrical Stimulation, TheraTogs, and Dynamic Movement Intervention.
PRACTICE EXPERIENCE + SPECIALTY AREAS: Lisa has focused the entirety of her career in pediatrics. She has worked in the educational setting in many rural districts across Mid-Missouri, in the Early Intervention setting in homes and daycares, and in the clinic setting. Lisa helped establish SLC’s Intensive Therapy Program in 2017 with the assistance of an Opportunity Fund through Missouri Foundation for Health. Since this time, Lisa has worked to expand SLC’s SKIP clinic to include outpatient and intensive physical, occupational, and speech therapy programs.
FUN FACT: Lisa has always loved animals. As a child, her family raised unique birds including a wide variety of ducks, swans, geese, turkey, pheasants and others. Currently, Lisa has a pet pygmy hedgehog named Lola.
Terri Brune, OTR/L, BCP
EDUCATION + CERTIFICATIONS: Terri graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1994 with a Bachelors of Health Science in Occupational Therapy. Terri is board certified in pediatrics by the American Occupational Therapy Association. She has additional training in the AEIOU feeding approach, Babble and Munch Pediatric Feeding Foundations program, Talk Tools oral motor/feeding approaches, therapeutic taping, sensory integration and dynamic movement intervention.
PRACTICE EXPERIENCE + SPECIALTY AREAS: Terri spent her first year in an inpatient rehabilitation setting treating adult spinal cord injury and pediatric trauma with transition to outpatient pediatrics at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Terri worked in rural educational settings and early childhood education initially when she transferred to work at The Special Learning Center. She currently works with children and families through the SKIP clinic and Missouri First Steps Early Intervention program in homes and daycares.
FUN FACT: Terri has always loved the outdoors and health/fitness. She has completed three half marathons with her daughter in Springfield, Columbia and Nashville.
Dora Doss, M.S., CCC-SLP
EDUCATION + CERTIFICATIONS: Dora received her Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders (1998) and Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (2000) from Missouri State University. Dora is a two-time recipient (2010 & 2016) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s (ASHA) Award for Continuing Education (ACE). Dora has additional training in the areas of feeding, oral motor, apraxia, listening and spoken language therapy, and certified in Pediatric Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation Therapy (NMES) for swallowing.
PRACTICE EXPERIENCE + SPECIALTY AREAS: Dora spent her first two years as a speech-language pathologist in a hospital seeing patients in acute care, inpatient/outpatient rehabilitation, and skilled nursing. Since that time, Dora has focused entirely on pediatrics. She has worked in outpatient, early intervention, early childhood special education, schools, and telepractice. Dora treats children in our SKIP Clinic, First Steps-early intervention, and our Early Childhood Special Education program.
FUN FACT: Dora’s superpower is taking a recipe and “cleaning it up” to create a healthier version and presenting it to varied palates of her family; her harshest critics.
ABBEY TWEHOUS, PT, DPT
EDUCATION + CERTIFICATIONS: Abbey received her Bachelor of Health Science and Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Missouri. She has additional training in serial casting, spinal stimulation, orthotic management, and is a Certified TheraTogs Fitter.
PRACTICE EXPERIENCE + SPECIALTY AREAS: Since becoming licensed in 2020, Abbey has experience working in First Steps early intervention, K-12 school-based physical therapy, and community consultation. She currently treats children in our SKIP Clinic, as well as our Early Childhood Special Education program. In addition to her work at Special Learning Center, she is an adjunct faculty member through the University of Missouri Department of Physical Therapy and was a LEND fellow as a doctoral student.
FUN FACT: Abbey had a classmate who she ended up going through 20 years of school with. They started together in kindergarten, then ended up attending the same schools and universities through elementary, high school, undergraduate, and graduate school. Small world!
